LAPIDARIUM OF THE ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM OF MONTENEGRO

In cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro the European Heritage Days was officially celebrated 28 September 2012. On that occasion was opened Lapidarium in the backyard of Njegoš`s Museum Biljarda. The main objective of this project consist in protecting and exhibiting dislocated carved stones from all the major archaeological sites in Montenegro. At the moment only 11 tombstones are exhibited,  originating from the the sites exposed to devastation in the area of the municipality of Pljevlja and Niksic. 

 

Lapidarium will operate as an organizational unit of the newly established Archaeological Museum of Montenegro. For this occasion the catalog was prepared, as well as the documentary on the stecak tombstones. 

 

The exhibition opened Minister of Culture of Montenegro Branislav Micunovic.
